Barbra Streisand had her dog Samantha cloned — twice. — I am a HUGE Barbara Streisand fan!

Barbra Streisand cloned her dog Samantha because she wanted to preserve the genetic makeup of her beloved pet. Samantha, a Coton de Tulear, had been with Streisand for 14 years.

These Coton de Tulear dogs are very rare.

Cotons avoid extinction today only through responsible breeding. Because they’re rare dogs, Coton de Tulear puppies typically cost between $2,000–$3,000 from a reputable breeder.

Barbara loved her white fluffy fur baby!

For Barbara, cloning offered a way to replicate the unique qualities of the dog. Streisand revealed that she cloned Samantha twice, resulting in two new dogs named Miss Violet and Miss Scarlet. The procedure was done at a company that specializes in pet cloning.

Streisand’s decision to clone her dog sparked public interest and discussions about the ethics and possibilities of cloning pets.
