For him, one photo at a time. For us, one story at a time.
He started as a street art graffiti artist with cans of spray paint. He sprayed his name and all kinds of crazy things on walls and roofs.
Then when he was 17 he found a camera on the subway, so he started taking photos of his friends.
His fellow graffiti artists while creating graffiti on streets and roofs.
Then he started pasting the photos on the walls of the streets. The photos were blown up to about 1 foot, and he would spray paint a frame on the wall around the photos. Often the photos would vanish. But the spray-painted frames remained. People had taken down the photos.
So JR decided to blow the photos larger. Huge. Really huge and paste them
I mean, if you could take a photo of your story and blow it, paste it huge on a wall, wouldn’t you? Maybe a poem. Whatever floats your boat.
