TV Commercials. They spit out the food.
They say, rolling. The actor takes a bite, chews it, then they say, cut. Then the actor spits it out.
Ok, it sounds gross, but they do I worked on a Chili’s spot and…
There were four people sitting at a table in a fake Chili’s they had built in a warehouse. The actors had gone through makeup, wardrobe, and hair, and were looking pretty darn perfect.
They were sitting at a booth, the set designer had carefully installed.
Forks, spoons, knives, napkins, ketchup, salt, pepper. The whole nine yards.
Cameras, lights, and crew were all scurrying. Chefs were in the back, cooking. The smell of burger and fries were wafting.
Soon we heard, “Action!”
The four people said their lines and took bites of the burger between lines They had rehearsed it without food in another room with the director. Then we heard, “Cut.”
There was a 5-gallon bucket under the table, and they spit out the chewed food. I had no idea!
Hair and makeup people swooped in and made them perfect again.
Take-after-take, those actors said their lines, took huge bites, chewed the food like they were starving and loving every single morsel, then on “cut” they spit into the bucket.
