So what the heck? Why do they call it a super flower blood moon?
Sometimes, you’ll hear this moon referred to as the “flower moon.” This is simply because it’s the month of May when flowers are blooming. A lunar eclipse is also called a “blood moon” because the moon turns red.
A “blood moon” happens when Earth’s moon is in a total lunar eclipse. While it has no special astronomical significance, the view in the sky is striking as the usually whitish moon becomes red or ruddy-brown. The moon orbits around Earth, while Earth orbits around the sun.
