Member-only story
I walked to the store with my walker.
When I got there I went to pull out a gallon of milk and it was too heavy.
I was kinda pooped. It was my first time walking that far.
There was a young man in his twenties standing next to me, and I asked him for help.
All he had to do was pick up the gallon of milk and hand it to me.
Maybe my walker freaked him out. I am 62, He was black and I am white. Maybe I, this old white woman scared him.
There was a maybe possibility that people just donβt care or want to help.
He looked at me and said, βI donβt work here.β Then he walked away.
I wrote about kindness. I called it βThe Kindness Challenge.β
I prefer to think that my walker may have. made him nervous. I donβt take it personally.
