Greyhound Rescue.The gift of life.

--

I worked for a greyhound rescue for over 20 years. So many dogs were saved. It was such a Privilege.

They are bred to run fast. 45 miles per hour! A female may have 12 puppies, all of which are studied from day one. These dogs are fast, but the greyhound breeders look for those pups that seem to be someone aggressive.

When racing, the dogs chance a toy rabbit, so the breeders use a toy rabbit right from the start. If a puppy does not respond, it is discarded.

The unwanted puppies don’t get adopted. A breeder may have 100 female dogs who have maybe 12 pups at a time. They are way overbred so puppies just keep coming.

It costs money to β€œput them down” via a shot and it puts up a red flag for over-breeding.

In Florida, the breeders would often put the pups in a bag with rocks and throw them in a lake or the swamp.

The dogs that make the grade become racers. They run like lightning for a few minutes a day, but they are kept in cages day in and day out, only getting out of the cage to pee or poop 2 times a day.
