When we played “squirt guns,” I brought the provisions — extra plastic pistols, Reeses Peanut Butter Cups, sodas — all stuffed into my dad’s old Vietnam War rucksack. When we played baseball in the dirt lot behind the townhouses, I brought the metal bat.
