In some cases, a catfisher steals another individual’s complete identity — including their image, date of birth, and geographical location — and pretends that it is their own.
In other words, they gank someone’s identity and pretend to be them online in order to get some lonely person to communicate with them, and the long-term goal is to persuade someone to give them money.
