It’s called a “CLAP BOARD.” With a film or movie camera, the sound is not recorded. Only the image, so the audio is recorded in a separate recorder. Sound experts listen in headphones and the cinematographer is 100% focused on the visual images.

In editing, the audio & video are combined and the sound and image of the clapboard synchronize them together so the talking or sound matches the visuals.
